Chronokinesis, i.e., can slow down or speed up the passage of time around him. With proper training and focus, Ivan can use his powers to turn back time – such as to heal wounds. However, he cannot reverse anything that is fated to occur. In other words, while he can use his powers to heal injuries, he cannot bring back the dead. |
Ivan grew up with his grandfather rather than his parents. The old man ran an antique store in St. Petersburg, and held a particular interest in clocks. Since Ivan's parents died of health complications, it was up to Old Edgar to raise Ivan. The old man swore he would raise Ivan better than he had raised Ivan's father, Nikolai. As a child he was pretty frail, and Ivan felt pressured into assuming the role of "the smart one" while growing up. Old Edgar in particular pressured young Ivan to become a good student, because in hindsight, Edgar felt he had failed to keep Nikolai on the straight and narrow. Ivan didn't show much resistance to this, though, because there was very little he could actually do to protest. The more he learned, the more he wanted to learn. Time went on, and Ivan found himself retreating into the world of books, particularly fantasy books. This helped to craft a vivid imagination in Ivan's mind. He loved reading tales of knights and dragons, of witches and warlocks, heroes and princesses. His favorite fantasy book was J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. So, imagine Ivan's surprise when he discovered he could control the fabric of time. He first realized this when Old Edgar told him to run an errand, Ivan zoned out, watched the old clocks in the store go back a minute, and heard Old Edgar tell him to run an errand a second time. It was weird, but Ivan took the ability in stride, because he had no other talents to speak of at the time. But Ivan's jubilation at this uniqueness wouldn't last for long. Not even a year later, in a random car accident, he witnessed one of his classmates die. Frightened, Ivan tried using his powers to prevent the accident from ever happening - but nothing worked. For a while he beat himself up about it, until Ivan learned that though he was a master of time, he could not change what fate had already set in motion. Afterwards, Ivan sunk into a mild depression, and lost all of his confidence. If he was gifted, why couldn't he alter the future? He refused to deal with the real world and immersed himself in his fantasy novels. It was his way of coping. This continued for several years, and then he discovered the cello. Ivan had picked it up as a whim, at first, when he was twelve. Old Edgar suggested picking up an instrument as a hobby for him, so Ivan complied. He quickly became fond of the deep, sonorous sound and practiced as much as he could. The cello became a medium for Ivan's inner woes. He must have had some talent for playing it, because Ivan gained a bit of fame on the classical music scene in St. Petersburg for his plaing. Happy to have a skill that could make a difference, Ivan continued to play, and continues to play to do this day. At present, Ivan is attending university in St. Petersburg. |
Quiet and dilligent, Ivan very much embodies the idea of a scholar. Naturally curious, Ivan is continually in a personal pursuit of knowledge. Academically, he places a lot of attention towards his History and Literature grades, but not so much on Math and Science. The reason for this lies within Ivan: he can't sum up the courage to look to the future, and thus clings to the past to find the answers he needs. This is the ultimate irony of Ivan's life, considering his abilities grant him control over the passage of time. Ivan doesn't have much self-confidence. Whenever asked a serious question, Ivan's response is always softened by a "maybe" or "I don't know". That's not to say he's shy or anything, though. He tries his hardest to be polite and patient with others, but he is not immune to feeling jealousy and contempt for his peers. He becomes attached to people rather quickly. When this happens, he becomes dependent on their opinions in order to guide him through life. In this regard, Ivan is somewhat clingy. |
At an average height of 5'8", and rather lanky-looking. His black hair is neatly cut and trimmed, and his bad eyesight causes him to wear glasses. Without them, he's blind as a bat. Black is his favorite color, which can be reflected through the clothes he wears. Having zero self-confidence, Ivan speaks very softly, and his eyes are usually downcast. He never stutters when talking to someone though. Instead, he takes out this anxiety by subconsciously tapping his foot. When in an academic setting, Ivan perks up a little bit, though. It's noticable enough to notice a difference between who he is outside and inside of school. |
